I have had the same best friend for 18 years. She moved across the country 6 years ago. What's great about our friendship is that it isn't affected by the distance; but the distance does make things harder sometimes... Like right now. I am getting married and am trying to plan a DIY wedding. I have wonderful friends and family members helping me with everything, and am so grateful for it! However, it just reminds me that she cannot be here to do this with me. She is doing so much from where she is, but she's not here to try on dresses with me, or to help calm me through stupid melt downs. We don't get to have silly movie night or dress up in 80's style workout clothes and do aerobics tapes or go out an disco dance in a hip hop dance club. And she's not here to sit around and enjoy a glass, or bottle of wine with. And I'm sure I am just coming off as whiney and snively, but it's what's going on. And all of these activities that I do with others are just that much more of a reminder that I don't get to do them with my best friend. I guess no matter how old you get, you still just need your best friend sometimes.
